Year 3 boys from around the Peninsula recently spent a day at St. Paul’s Catholic College Manly experiencing what high school is like.

Year 11 St. Paul’s students acted as peer support helpers and were involved in teaching the Primary students a variety of activities including medieval history, cooking, designing and modeling paper bridges, sketching artistic monsters and more. This experience was a great way to practice leadership skills for senior students.

Each different activity room was buzzing with excitement and comments such as ‘how many years until we start High School’ were heard throughout the day.

“It was fun doing experiments and making sherbet in the Science Lab. I enjoyed playing the guitar and the drums in music. I had a great day learning about High School” said and enthusiastic Eric Pont of Avalon who is pictured.

Kathy Gee Principal at Maria Regina Primary School Avalon was enthusiastic about having her students participate in this day and commented that “The boys from Maria Regina were very excited to see what lessons in High School would be like”.

It was the aim of St. Paul’s Catholic College to show Primary students the link between what they do in Primary school and what will be done in Secondary school with a ‘hands on’ approach.
